Some explanatory notes we recommend are read in conjunction with the Standardised Price List ….
Our “Attended Funeral” price is made up of our Standard Professional Fee (as specified below), a plain oak veneer coffin (with fitted interior and a choice of handles) and the provision of four bearers (who would be required for a burial). Unfortunately, the CMA make no distinction between the costs associated with providing a burial or cremation service. A reduction of £250 (from £2,300 to £2,050) may be made if cremation is your desired option, likewise if you decide to provide your own bearers for a burial. Please note that the “Attended Funeral” price does NOT include the “Burial Fee” or “Cremation Fee”. Services or ceremonies held in a place of worship or other location before travelling to the crematorium or cemetery may attract additional costs.
The “Unattended Burial” price does NOT include the cost of purchasing or preparing the grave (whereas “Unattended Cremation” does include the cost of the cremation!).
The “Unattended Cremation” price is for a Direct Cremation (as specified below).
The “Burial Fee” (£550 - £1,285) is illustrative of the cost of preparing a double depth, lawn grave in a local churchyard or Parish Council cemetery (£550) or a Cornwall Council cemetery (£1,285). There may be restrictions on who can be buried in particular churchyards and cemeteries and extra costs for non-residents and, for example, hand digging graves.
The “Burial Fee” does NOT include the cost of purchasing the grave itself (which can be as much as or more than the cost of preparing the grave).
The “Cremation Fee” (£850 - £1,350) is for a day-time service (Mon to Fri ) at Treswithian Downs Crematorium. Other options are available.
We do not make a charge for the local collection and delivery of cremated remains but are not permitted by the CMA to display a £0 charge. The nominal charge of £1 shown would be waived!
We are sorry if this is all a bit confusing but the CMA are very prescriptive about how the information is presented and what is and is not included. We are not permitted to change or add to the wording to make it clearer, hence the notes above. Likewise, we are not permitted to correct the typographic errors in the document.

We are often asked “how much does a funeral cost?” It is a bit like asking “how long is a piece of string?”.
There are so many variables depending on the choices made that it is difficult to answer the question directly. In the last 12 months our invoices have varied from under £750 to over £7,000! The average is currently around £4,000 with Direct Cremation costing as little as £1,350.
What we always do though, once we have a clear idea of what you have in mind, is to give you an estimate of the costs involved.
The cost of a funeral falls into two parts; the charges made by the funeral director and payments made to third parties (often referred to as “disbursements”). The latter include crematorium and cemetery fees, ministers and celebrants etc.
We have tried to be as comprehensive as we can in detailing a range of options below including our standard professional fee, the cost of limousines and the cost of the most commonly ordered coffins etc.
You will also find details of our Direct Cremation Service below.
In addition, you will find details of local crematorium and cemetery fees etc.

Our Charges
Our Standard Professional Charge for an “Attended Funeral” includes:
Organising and carrying out the funeral arrangements including home visits, as required;
Checking paperwork and delivery to the cemetery or crematorium;
Organising newspaper notices and printing (but not the cost of insertions or printed materials);
Administration of charitable donations;
Taking the deceased into our care from a local private residence, care home or hospital (including from RCH Treliske), at any time of the day or night, preparation and accommodation of the deceased, use of our Chapel of Rest and viewing, if required;
Provision of a hearse to transport the deceased to a local burial ground or to Treswithian Downs Crematorium including attendance of the funeral director and all necessary equipment required;
Our Standard Professional Charge is £1,500
We expect this charge to cover the vast majority of funeral arrangements we undertake. Where there is considerably more work to be undertaken than we would normally expect to carry out, we reserve the right to make an appropriate additional charge having, first, discussed the matter with the client. Likewise, if the client wishes a simpler set of arrangements, an appropriate reduction may be made. We also offer a “Direct Cremation Service” (see below).
Our Standard Professional Charge does not include the cost of bearers, a coffin, container for cremated remains or any payments to third parties eg. crematorium or cemetery charges (please see below for the options and an indication of these charges).

Direct Cremation Service
In addition to our standard services, we offer a very simple service which is known as a “Direct Cremation” or an “Unattended Cremation”
In arriving at a cost for this service, we have made the following assumptions:
The arrangements are straightforward and the person making them attends our offices;
The deceased is taken into our care from Treliske or West Cornwall Hospitals, a care home or private residence within a 5 mile radius, during normal office hours;
The provision of a simple cardboard coffin suitable for cremation;
There will be no viewing of the deceased;
The hearse will travel directly from our premises to Treswithian Downs Crematorium on a date and at a time of our choosing;
There will be no service at the Crematorium.
The ashes will be scattered at Treswithian Downs Crematorium or returned to us, in a biodegradable cardboard container, for collection;
Payment is made before the cremation takes place.
Any variation of these assumptions may attract an additional charge eg. the removal of the deceased outside of normal office hours or a request to view.
Our Direct Cremation Service includes the cost of the Crematorium. It does not include the payment of any other charges to third parties.
Our charge for providing such a service is £1,350.
There is an additional charge of £100 if we take the deceased into our care outside normal working hours (Mon - Fri 9.00am to 5.00pm).
